‘Journeys into the Lands of Remorse’ retraces, through photographs, published documents and contemporary reinterpretations, the adventure of ethno-anthropological research through the stories of the women and men who lived through it. A work of observation and investigation that helped to bring to light ritual systems which, until then, had been confined to the narrow circle of the communities within which the ‘magical’ practices of tarantism had found the time and place to manifest themselves.
The exhibition features: the observations of Dr Francesco de Raho; ‘never-before-seen’ images from the archive of Franco Pinna, photographer and collaborator on Ernesto de Martino’s scientific expeditions; and the photographic reportages of Chiara Samugheo.
Also on display are contemporary narratives and visions, featuring images by the photographer and visual artist Alessia Rollo, works by Motus, and posters by Mauro Bubbico.
‘Journeys through the Lands of Remorse’ is a project by Big Sur, OfficinaVisioni, Cinema del reale and Errata Corrige – supported by the Municipal Council of Corigliano d’Otranto, the Ministry of Culture – Fund for Development and Cohesion, and by the Puglia Region through the Arts, Culture and Tourism Hub, under the patronage of the Notte della Taranta Foundation, in collaboration with the Castello Volante in Corigliano d’Otranto, CoolClub.it, Multiservice-Eco, the Franco Pinna Archive, Home Movies – National Archive of Home Movies, and the Audiovisual Archive of the Labour and Democratic Movement.
