Journeys through the Lands of Return

A conversation with the artist Aurora Lac on drift, layering and rewriting

What does it mean to return to a place that is no longer the same? And what happens when it is we ourselves who have changed?

A return that is not a point of arrival, but a critical juncture: a space of transition in which experiences, memories and senses of belonging are questioned and re-examined. Between continuity and transformation, what once seemed familiar shifts, changes and takes on new meanings.

The second event in the ‘Journeys to the Lands of Return’ series introduces the research and return of a young artist originally from Fasano, Aurora Lac. Her artistic journey takes the form of a continuous layering of meaning, placing the Situationist concept of
détournement at the heart of her work. Alteration is understood as a process of loss, transformation and the acquisition of new meanings, in which images, symbols and objects are removed from their original context and reassigned to new interpretative dynamics.
Each element enters a state of drift, effectively opening itself up to unexpected and multiple forms and interpretations.

The project deliberately appropriates the title of the exhibition ‘Journeys into the Lands of Remorse’ hosted at Castello Volante, which in turn references Ernesto De Martino’s *La terra del rimorso*, establishing a interplay of references and reinterpretations between artistic practices and anthropological research that is not intended as a nostalgic retreat, but rather as a creative act.

The event aims to connect young people, culture and the local area through exchange and dialogue.
It is conceived as a dialogue between archaic and contemporary temporalities, in which each era is re-inscribed within new relationships and meanings, prompting reflection on a concrete and widespread generational condition.
